Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,335) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,887) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,792) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,871) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

During the first week of September, junta forces used various methods, such as aerial bombardments and indiscriminate firing of heavy weaponry and firearms, to target civilian areas and brutally kill innocent civilians. On September 1, an aerial bombardment was conducted in a residential area in Mawchee Area, Hpasawng Township, Kayah State. The attack killed around 10 locals, including children and injured many others. On the same day, two locals were killed when junta forces indiscriminately opened fire with firearms in Khin Mun Village, Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region.

Similarly, on September 4, an elderly couple were killed when junta forces indiscriminately fired heavy weaponry at Mindat Township and its surrounding areas in Chin State. On September 5, two internally displaced persons (IDPs), a father and son, were killed when junta forces conducted an aerial bombardment on Pan Taw Gyi Village, Lemyathna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, according to ground reports. These incidents clearly highlight the junta’s disregard for and serious violations of international law.
