AAPP Museum

At the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), there is a small museum located somewhere along the Thailand-Burma border.  It was established to honor and preserve the memory of the sacrifices and contributions made by political prisoners who have continuously fought for the freedom of the people of Burma and for democracy in the country, including those who remain imprisoned in the military dictatorship’s prisons to this day. The museum also aims to raise awareness among the international community and the public about their struggles and ensure that their sacrifices are never forgotten.

The museum features historic photographs of political movements, prison records of political prisoners, a scale model of the notorious Insein Prison, and a replica prison cell. It also displays handicrafts and everyday items that prisoners themselves made and used while incarcerated.

In addition, the museum commemorates student activists and young resistance members who were unjustly executed inside prisons, as well as political prisoners who lost their lives in various prisons as a result of torture, abuse, ill treatment, lack of health care, and malnutrition.

Visitors to the museum will gain a more in-depth understanding of the history of Burma’s political prisoners and the realities of their daily lives behind bars. One of the most meaningful aspects of the museum is the opportunity to meet former political prisoners in person, hear their stories firsthand, and engage in conversations about their experiences and reflections. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the work and activities of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
