Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,414) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,954) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,839) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,870) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Conditions in the prisons of Burma remain dire. Prisoners, including political prisoners, are denied even the minimum standards of treatment of prisoners they are entitled to. They are subjected to various violations of their rights. In 2026, (7) political prisoners died due to a lack of adequate medical care in prisons.

Soe Moe Naing (aka Soe Naing, aka Dein Daung), a political prisoner, was arrested by the junta in December 2021. During his incarceration, he suffered from coronary artery disease but did not receive adequate medical treatment. His condition worsened on September 15, 2026, and he passed away that night.
