Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,180) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (500) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.

Since the coup, a total of (25,398) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,672) are currently in detention, (8,041) of whom are serving sentences.

There are a total of (120) post-coup death row prisoners as of November 10, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (163) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,726) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from February 2021 to November 10, 2023, (865) people in 2021, (413) people in 2022 and (341) people between January and November 10 in 2023; (1,619) people in total have been killed by the junta’s gunshots across the country. Among (1,619) deceased, Sagaing Region records the highest number of deaths with (615) people followed by Mandalay Region with (207) deceased people as the second highest number of deaths.

On the morning of November 7, clashes broke out between junta forces and a coalition of PDFs near Pyar Village in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region. Subsequently, junta forces raided and opened fire in Pyar Village, resulting in the death of a 3-year-old girl identified as Shoon Lei Cho from gunshot wounds.
