Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,736) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (23,651) people were arrested and among them, (19,295) are currently under detention, (6,621) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of June 30, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (157) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,356) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to June 2023, (221) male and (249) female; (470) individuals in total, have been arrested by the junta from the education sector (including teachers) across the country. Among the (470), Mandalay Region records the highest number of arrested people with (108), and (118) have been imprisoned under specious charges across the country.

On June 22, in order to arrest CDM teacher Nwe Nwe Oo from Nat Maw Village and NLD Ward and Village Administration member Kyaw from Kaing Taw Kwin Village, junta forces raided Nat Maw and Kaing Taw Kwin Villages, located in Hinthada Township, Ayeyarwady Region. On June 24, they were charged under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law and Section 505(a) of the Penal Code at Hinthada Myoma Police Station, where they are currently detained.
