According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, in recent weeks, the junta forces have carried  out extensive attacks and arson operations in civilian areas across the country. In the second week of June, junta forces attacked and set villages in Salingyi, Kanbalu, Khin-U and Ayadaw Townships and Sar Taung Town in Sagaing Region on fire and as a result, several houses were burned and destroyed. As a result, locals were forced to flee for their safety.

Additionally, junta forces fired heavily into civilian areas, even in the absence of any clashes recorded. This resulted in further evacuations in the area. On the morning of June 18, a military column with over 200 junta personnel, fired heavily with various weapons at Yar Taw Village in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region and proceeded to raid it. Due to this, around 4,000 locals from Yar Taw Village and nearby Tha Yet Pin Su, Kar Seik, Ma Gyi Oke, Myin Daung, Kyun Taw Gyi, Oo Yin and Myin Kya Villages had to flee to their safety.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January to June 19 of 2023, (446) people died in Sagaing Region due to the junta’s violence. Among the (446) killed, (195) people were killed due to airstrikes and (145) people were killed after being detained.
