Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,580) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (22,726) people were arrested and among them, (18,407) are currently under detention, (6,106) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (114) post-coup death row prisoners as of May 26, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (156) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,319) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on May 24, Paungde Prison Special Court sentenced Banyar Myo Thant and Zin Myint Tun (aka Pate Gyi) from Zigon and Paungde Townships in Bago Region, to each serve 50 years in prison under Counter-Terrorism Law charges; for allegedly attending PDF training. Three electricity office workers, Thaw Zin Htet, Ye Naing and Htin Linn Oo, from Zigon Town were each sentenced to serve 10 years in prison, for allegedly being involved in the explosion of an electrical office.
In addition to this, on May 23, junta forces raided villages in Kawlin Township, Sagaing Region. They then captured and killed People’s Defense Team personnel Nay Hsann Aung from Kyay Inn Village, a homeopathic doctor named Thein Aye from Kyauk Kar Village, Kyaw Min Thein and Min Hlaing from Maung Kaw Village. In addition, the junta forces shot and killed Phoe Wa, a refugee from Kanbalu Township, while he was herding cows at the entrance of Aout Thi Ta Yar Village.
