Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,567) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (22,635) people were arrested and among them, (18,319) are currently under detention, (6,030) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (114) post-coup death row prisoners as of May 23, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (156) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,316) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

According to information gathered today, on the night of May 21, junta forces raided Agape Hospital in Zay Haung Ward, Hakha Town, Chin State, and captured Dr. Sicilia and 4 nurses: Henny; Sianlun; Hniang Sung and J Mawi. All five of them are currently being held at Hakha Town Police Station.

In addition to this, on May 10, a township court subservient to the junta, sentenced Naing Min Htet, Nay Htet Linn and Min Htet Paing from Tin Thar Village, Kale Township, Sagaing Region, to each serve 2 years in prison under Section 505 A of the Penal Code. All three of them were arrested at Pae Waing Checkpoint at the exit of the Kale Town, on April 1, for allegedly being PDF personnel.
