Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,519) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (22,407) people were arrested and among them, (18,095) are currently under detention, (5,963) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (112) post-coup death row prisoners as of May 17, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (154) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,312) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, National League for Democracy Party’s Pyay Township Regional Hluttaw Representative Kyaw Zay Ya, who is serving 19 years of imprisonment in Pyay Prison, Bago Region, was given two additional charges under Counter-Terrorism Law Section 49(a), by the prison court. He will face trial for these charges on May 19. junta forces arrested him on June 9, 2022, and he was interrogated at both Ye Kyi Aing Interrogation Center in Yangon City, and Interrogation Center of Regional Operations Command in Pyay Town for over two months. Thereafter, on December 12, 2022, he was sentenced by Pyay Prison Court to serve 19 years in prison under six charges.
In addition to this, on May 11, at around 6:30 p.m., junta forces raided and set fire to Ngar Shan Village, Chaung-U Township in Sagaing Region. Additionally, they fired heavy weaponry indiscriminately; killing a local named San Linn on the spot, whilst seriously injuring his wife.
