Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2716) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.
Since the coup, a total of (13,360) people are currently under detention, (1962) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (100) post-coup death row prisoners as of January 10, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (142) people who have been sentenced to death. (24) people have been released on bail and (3720) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on the morning of January 9, following a clash between junta forces and regional defence forces in Tigyaing Township, Sagaing Region, an artillery shell fired by the junta exploded on a Htan Kone Village monastery. Seven people were injured and Kyaw Khin, who had been internally displaced, was killed.
In addition, on January 7 at around 7:30 p.m, junta forces indiscriminately fired heavy weaponry at Thongwa Village in Kyaikto Township, Mon State. No clash was taking place. An artillery shell exploded to the west of Thongwa Cemetery, killing Zaw Moe Lwin and injuring six of his family members, including seven-year-old Htet Myat La Min.
