On December 21, 2022, two reporters were sentenced by Kyeemyindaing Township Court, inside Insein Prison, to serve 3 years in prison with hard labor, under charges of Penal Code Section 505 A. They were arrested by the junta on December 5, 2021, who had run into them with a car on Pan Pin Gyi Road, Kyeemyindaing Township, Yangon Region. The two reporters are Kaung Set Linn and Hmu Yadanar Khet Moet Moet Tun, who work for Myanmar Press Photo Agency (MPA). In addition to this court case, Hmu Yadanar Khet Moet Moet Tun is facing trial at Yangon Eastern District Court on the charge of Counter-Terrorism Law Section 50 (j). She has had to receive medical treatment as her left leg was broken when the car crashed into her. Currently, she is using crutches and a wheelchair for mobility.
On December 19, 2022, Thiri Wai (aka Ma Wai), whose 3-year-old preschool son Thant Bhone Waiyan was taken as a hostage by the junta on April 5, 2022, was sentenced to serve two 10-year prison sentences. Thiri Wai (aka Ma Wai) was sentenced under charges of Counter-Terrorism Law Section 50 (i) and (j). However, she is to serve the two sentences concurrently, leaving her with 10 years of imprisonment, rather than 20 years. Her sentencing took place at Ahlone District Court, inside Insein Prison.
