Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (786) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the junta between February 2021 and October 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (2538) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdowns following pro-democracy movements.          

Since the coup, a total of (12973) people are currently under detention, (1620) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (86) post-coup death row prisoners as of November 25, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (128) people who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3437) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

On November 24, journalist Si Thu Aung Myint was sentenced to serve 2 years in prison with hard labor by the Insein Prison special court, under the charge of Penal Code Section 505 A. Si Thu Aung Myint had already been sentenced to 3 years in prison with hard labor on October 7. On August 15, 2021, the journalist was arrested alongside Htet Htet Khaing, a host of BBC Media Action, in Bahan Township, Yangon Region. 

In the afternoon of November 23, a junta vehicle carrying 8 junta soldiers was hit by a landmine. Following this, junta forces opened fire in the surrounding area, resulting in the death of Marip Mung Jat Aung, from Kalat Kone Ward, Hpakant Township, and the injury of another person.
