Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (709) houses and buildings have been sealed off by Junta between February 2021 and July 2022.  

Since the February 1, 2021 military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of  (2145) people, pro-democracy activists and other civilians have been killed through military crackdown following pro-democracy movements. AAPP compiled and documented (3) fallen heroes today. These (3) fallen heroes, from Twantay Township in Yangon Region and Thaton Township and Ye Township in Mon State, were killed on previous days, but documented today.              

Since the coup, up until August 2, 2022, a total of (11865) people are currently under detention and (1366) are serving sentences. There are a total of 77 post-coup death row prisoners as of August 2, 2022. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (119) who have been sentenced to death. (22) people have been released on bail and (3075) people have already been released. These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

On July 21, 2022, a high school teacher named Win Lei Phyu Oo from Phyu Township, Bago Region was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law by the Taungoo Prison Special Court. On September 18, 2021, Win Lei Phyu Oo was arrested at her parents home in Phyu Town by junta forces.   

On July 29 at around 8 am, 8th Military Operations Command (MOC-8) from Peinnetaw Base fired seven artillery shells at Htee Nyar Lu Village in Min Lwin Village Tract, Thaton Township, Mon State. Artillery shells which exploded in that village killed a local named Naw Ka Paw Htoo and injured her daughter named Naw Htwe Htwe, as well as another villager named Tee Aung Zaya.
