Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

According to AAPP documentation, at least (570) houses and buildings have been sealed off by the Junta since the 2021 coup up until April 2022.  

As of May 27, 2022, (1866) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (2) fallen heroes today. These (2) fallen heroes from Salingyi Township in Sagaing Region were killed on May 25 and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.              

As of May 27, 2022, a total of (10825) people are currently under detention. (1085) people have been sentenced in person, of them 72 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1979 are evading arrest warrants. 120 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 41 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 113 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.     

On May 25, Kyaw Nyein and Chit Thein Zaw (aka Phar Gyi) from Ywar Thar Village, Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, were detained by the armed wing of the junta in Done Taw Village. Their hands were tied behind their backs and they were killed. The bodies were found in Kan Kone Village’s cemetery. Half of Kyaw Nyein’s face was deformed from torture and a bullet wound on was found on his forehead. Chit Thein Zaw (aka Phar Gyi) also had injuries sustained from torture along with bullet wounds in his head and chest. The pair were employees of Myanmar Yangtse Copper Co. Ltd, Kyaw Nyein in the Processing Department, and Chit Thein Zaw (aka Phar Gyi worked as a drill operator in the Mining Department.

On May 18, third year Yangon Technology University (YTU) student Htet Myat Naing, who also passed the Matriculation Exams with distinctions on all subjects, was sentenced to  life in prison by the military tribunal, on the basis of Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. He was accused of having connections with the PDF and of supporting them. He was arrested on March 2, in his home at 29 Ward, Dagon Myothit (North).
