Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

As of January 1, (1393) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (9) fallen heroes today. These (9) fallen heroes from Myeik Township in Tanintharyi Region and Kalay Township in Sagaing Region were killed on previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.  

As of January 1, a total of (8344) people are currently under detention. (500) people have been sentenced in person, of them 39 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1964 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 78  sentenced to death, in person and absentia. The exact identities and total figure remains to be verified, but we will continue to confirm the recently released.

On December 30, Mandalay Region Hluttaw Speaker U Aung Kyaw Oo was sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labor by the court in prison. He was sentenced to three years for Section 505(A) of the Penal Code, two years for Section 25 of the Natural Disaster Management Law.   

On December 28, Yan Naing Aung, his father Win Hlaing and his brother Shwe Phyo Aung were sentenced to two years imprisonment. The third-year student majoring in Botany of Pyay University and executive member of Pyay University Students’ Union, the political activist, and third-year student majoring in Philosophy of Distance Education of Pyay University, were sentenced by the court in Pyay Prison.
