Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

On October 18, the junta announced they would release 1316 people who had been sentenced and 4320 people who were facing trial. The exact identities and total figures remain to be verified, but we will continue to verify the recently released.

As of October 22, (1186) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (3) fallen heroes today. These (3) fallen heroes from Ayadaw Township in Sagaing Region and Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region were killed on previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of October 22, a total of (7036) people are currently under detention. (304) people have been sentenced in person, of them 26 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1955 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 65 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. 

On the night of October 20, terrorist junta soldiers raided Wat Chaung Village in Akani Village Tract, Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region and shot a local villager named Kyi Thein, and then detained the 70-year-old with a gunshot injury to his leg. The following day, his family was informed to collect Kyi Thein’s dead body. 

Thamine and Ba Hein from the Ayadaw Revolutionary Alliance (ARA) were shot dead on the spot by junta troops after the two were detained at Ayadaw Township in Sagaing Region on October 15. 

A poet named Myo Nyein Zaw, who is vice-chairman of Moe Myittar Free Funeral Service based in Pyay Township, Bago Region, his friend Thet Gyi, and Win Zaw who was driving them, were all detained by the junta on October 21. Myo Nyein Zaw had been evading arrest, and was detained returning from the funeral of his father.
