Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

On October 18, the junta announced they would release 1316 people who had been sentenced and 4320 people who were facing trial. The exact identities and total figures remain to be verified, but we will continue to verify the recently released.

As of October 21, (1183) people are now confirmed killed by this junta coup. AAPP compiled and documented (2) fallen heroes today. These (2) fallen heroes from Pyinmana Township in Naypyitaw and Yangon Region were killed on previous days and documented today. This is the number verified by AAPP. The actual number of fatalities is likely much higher. We will continue adding as and when.

As of October 21, a total of (7031) people are currently under detention. (304) people have been sentenced in person, of them 26 have been sentenced to death (incl. 2 children). 1955 are evading arrest warrants. 118 people have been sentenced in absentia, of them 39 sentenced to death in absentia. In total 65 sentenced to death, in person and absentia. 

Linn Paing Soe, who was a final year engineering student at Kyaukse Technological University, and led protests in Naypyitaw and Mandalay was killed in Mandalay Nann Twin Interrogation Center on October 1. Linn Paing Soe was arrested on September 30, on October 18, eighteen days later it was discovered he had died.

Min Min Soe, aeronautical engineer of Air KBZ, who was arrested for alleged connection to an incident in which green foliage was put into an aircraft, died in Insein Prison on October 17 due to poor health.
