Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,224) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,632) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,645) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,898) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

The junta has been committing various forms of oppression against political prisoners in the prisons of Burma, while also carrying out horrific attacks targeting civilians on a daily basis.

The junta had arrested people involved in the protests against its sham elections. In December 2025, nine activists from various protest groups in Mandalay Region were arrested and sentenced to long prison terms in July 2026 under Section 23(b) of the Protection of Elections Law and Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law.

In addition, an airstrike on Shwe Hlay Village in Thandwe Township, Rakhine State on July 31 killed four civilians, and on August 1, four internally displaced persons (IDPs) were severely injured during a bombing attack in Set Set Yo Village, Lemyathna Township, Ayeyarwady Region, which is currently experiencing flooding.
