Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 28 April 2026

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,996) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (30,915) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,173) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,875) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to April 28, 2026, a total of (71) children under the age of 18; (33) girls and (38) boys, were killed by the junta across the country. This includes ‌a two-month-old boy. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among them, Bago Region records the highest number of fatalities, totaling (23). (9) other children were killed in Magway Region. Moreover, among the (71) deceased, (45) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death.

On April 25, a combined force of Pyu Saw Htee militia, junta troops, and police officers from Min Village, Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, launched a drone bomb offensive on Nga Ta Yaw Village. The attack resulted in the death of novice monk Vithuta, who had been in monkhood for four years, Grade-10 student Kyaw Ko Ko (aka Myat Thura Kyaw), and Grade-2 student Hein Nyi Nyi Htet, all due to bomb shrapnel.
