Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,972) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (30,870) people have been arrested by the junta in connection with opposition to the arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,283) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,887) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1, 2021 to April 10, 2026, the junta killed (93) people in total from the religious sector across the country, including monks, nuns and novices This number includes (18) individuals under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among them, Sagaing Region records the highest number of fatalities, with (19) people killed, followed by (16) in Shan State. Among the (93) deceased, (49) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death, followed by (16) people who were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes.
On April 6, at approximately 11:00 a.m., junta forces conducted an aerial bombing near a school that was sheltering internally displaced persons (IDP) close to Sin Inn Village, Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region. As a result, Ponnya, a monk, was killed instantly, and an unidentified woman also died from bomb shrapnel.
During the stated period, the junta arrested (169) individuals across the country, from the religious sector, in relation to the Spring Revolution. Among them, (61) people were arrested in Mandalay Region, recording the highest number of arrests.
