Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,850) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (30,543) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,772) are currently in detention, (11,536) of whom are serving sentences.

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to February 28, 2026, (34) people in total; (21) women and (13) men, were killed by the junta’ artillery strikes across the country, including (3) children under the age of 18. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the deaths, Rakhine State recorded the highest number of fatalities, totaling (8). During the stated period in that region, the AAPP has also received information regarding the death of (17) civilians, as a result of junta’s artillery strikes attacks, whose identities have yet to be confirmed.

On February 15, a junta naval vessel anchored off the coast of Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State, fired heavy artillery inside Wa Myaung Village. The artillery shrapnel killed a five-year-old girl, Khin Htet Htet Soe, and her aunt, Khin Sann Wai. Several other civilians were wounded. Among them, Ma Wai Chan, who is Khin Htet Htet Soe’s grandmother, succumbed to her injuries on February 19, 2026, while receiving medical treatment.
