Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,593) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (30,128) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,656) are currently in detention, (11,404) of whom are serving sentences. 

According to the latest information gathered and confirmed by AAPP, (121) people have been arrested under the Election Protection Law, among whom (84) individuals have not yet been identified. 

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the Documentation and Research Department of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the junta’s daily targeted attacks on civilians and non-military buildings have led to an increase in civilian casualties and displacement. According to reports from the ground, in December, the junta’s airstrikes killed around (114) civilians and tens of thousands of people had to flee their homes for safety.

On December 10 and 11, junta forces conducted airstrikes on a hospital in Mrauk-U Township and into Nga Lone Su Village in Kyaukpyu Township, Rakhine State, killing around 50 civilians and injuring nearly 100. Similarly, on December 13, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing near Htone Bo Village in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region, killing five people. In addition, the junta’s continued airstrikes on villages in Nattalin Township, Bago Region, have forced civilians to flee for safety.
