Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (7,328) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (29,788) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,488) are currently in detention, (11,158) of whom are serving sentences.

These are the numbers verified by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to observations by the Documentation and Research Department of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), political prisoner Aung Ko Oo died of a heart attack on the night of October 3, 2025. Aung Ko Oo was serving an eight-year sentence in Dawei Prison, Tanintharyi Region, under Section 505 A of the Penal Code and a section of the Explosive Substances Act.

During the first week of October, based on the monitoring of the junta’s human rights violations as much as possible, it was discovered that approximately (50) civilians were killed due to heavy weaponry fire, military offensives, and airstrikes. On October 2, heavy weaponry was fired in Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in a shell exploding inside the compound of Aung Myay Chan Myae Monastery, killing four novices. On the same day, two people, including a disabled man, were killed when junta forces launched an offensive into Ta Mar Kan Village, Wetlet Township, and opened fire. On October 4, two children were killed in an airstrike on Namhsan Township, Shan State. On October 6, on the night of the full moon of Thadingyut, an aerial bombing was conducted using parabombs into Bon To Village in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region, killing around 20 people, including children.
