Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 5 October 2026
Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,479) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.
A total of (32,054) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,931) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,777) remain to be verified.
These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
In September, the junta carried out the arbitrary arrest of civilians in some regions and states of the country, citing their alleged connection to the Spring Revolution. On September 17, two local residents of Shwethaungyan Town, in Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region, were arrested for allegedly transporting and storing food supplies for members of the People’s Defence Force (PDF). Similarly, on September 20, a resident of Thin Gan Taw Village in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, was arrested on allegations of having connections to revolutionary organizations.
In addition to committing such acts of oppression, the junta has engaged in inhumane conduct, such as blocking charity and relief groups from reaching disaster-stricken populations and subjecting them to inspections and arrests. This is at a time when emergency aid is urgently needed following severe flooding and landslides that claimed dozens of lives across Dawei, Launglon, Thayetchaung and Yebyu Townships in Tanintharyi Region, starting in the last week of September. Furthermore, they have also been deliberately carrying out ground offensives and aerial bombing attacks into areas inhabited by civilians.
