Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (8,330) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

A total of (31,843) people have been arrested by the junta for opposing their arbitrary seizure of power. Of those arrested, (14,756) are confirmed to still be in detention, while (7,871) remain to be verified.

These are the numbers reported by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP). The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from February 1, 2021 to August 28, 2026, the junta killed (96) people in total from the religious sector across the country, including monks, nuns and novices. This number includes (19) individuals under the age of 18. These are the numbers that have been verified. Among them, Sagaing Region records the highest number of fatalities, with (20) people killed, followed by (16) in Shan State. Among the (96) deceased, (52) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes, marking the highest cause of death, followed by (16) people who were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes.

On August 20, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Tada-U Air Force of junta forces conducted an aerial bombing using jet fighter aircraft on Baw Di monastery and Shauk Kan monastery, where internally displaced persons (IDPs) were taking refuge, in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, with the bomb shrapnel killing Monk Tilaw and an IDP named Zaw Naing Win.
