Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Date – 9 June 2025

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,787) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (29,254) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,115) are currently in detention, (10,794) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

Although the junta extended the period of temporary ceasefire from June 1 to June 30, it continues to conduct airstrikes on an almost daily basis. On June 1, the junta carried out an airstrike on a school in 4-Mile Kan Thar Village, Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region, for no apparent reason, damaging two school buildings. On June 5, an aerial bombing was also conducted at a monastery in Kyet Yoe Pin Village in the same township, despite no clashes taking place, killing one monk and damaging the monastery. On the same day, the junta also bombed Nyaung Kan Village, Saw Township, Magway Region, without any clashes occurring, killing three local civilians.

In addition, on June 6, the junta bombed a school in Min Taing Pin Village, Pale Township, Sagaing Region, killing one civilian, injuring around six others, and damaging the school building. On June 7, schools in Kyauk Gyi Village and Pu Zun Hpay Village in Thandwe Township, Rakhine State, that were being used as shelters for internally displaced persons (IDPs), were bombed, killing four IDPs, injuring around 10, and damaging the school buildings. On the same day, an airstrike on Kyauk Aing Village in Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, instantly killed a father and son.
