There are a total of (120) post-coup death row prisoners as of December 11, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (163) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,789) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to monitoring by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, the junta has been committing war crimes in various ways by indiscriminately targeting and attacking civilian areas with excessive force. These actions occur either after clashes with EROs and PDFs or without any reported clashes.
In recent weeks, the junta has intensified its attacks, including aerial bombings with fighter planes and the use of heavy weaponry, in various locations across the country. These locations include Namhkan Township in Shan State, Pauk Township in Magway Region, Tamu and Tigyaing Towns in Sagaing Region, Kyaukkyi Township in Bago Region, Loikaw Town in Kayah State, Pauktaw Township in Rakhine State, and Mohnyin Town in Kachin State. These attacks have resulted in numerous civilian deaths and casualties, including underage children, and the destruction of churches, schools and houses, leading to the evacuation of tens of thousands of locals for safety.
The junta has been indiscriminately firing various weaponry at civilian areas, conducting raids, breaking into houses, and setting them on fire across the country. This includes Wuntho Township and Tamu Town in Sagaing Region, Pauktaw and Ponnagyun Townships in Rakhine Region, Waw Township in Bago Region, and Madaya Township in Mandalay Region. Thousands of civilians have been forced to flee for safety as a result.
Moreover, due to the re-emergence of clashes in Rakhine State, the junta has used excessive force and imposed blockades on land and naval transportation, preventing locals from accessing hospitals and clinics. This has led to unnecessary deaths of people, including pregnant women, in need of medical assistance.
Additionally, following the military coup, the junta, which has been suppressing freedom of expression, announced on December 5 that they would arrest and take action against those who share news on social media about the situation in Rakhine State. Two civilians have been arrested for allegedly writing and posting false news on social media, and they face charges under specious charges.
AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses. If you receive any information about detentions of, or charges against: CSO leaders, activists, journalists, CDM workers, other civilians and fallen heroes in relation to the military and police crackdown on dissent, please submit to the following addresses: doc_data_team@aappb.org
