Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,195) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (500) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.

Since the coup, a total of (25,429) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,702) are currently in detention, (8,121) of whom are serving sentences.

There are a total of (120) post-coup death row prisoners as of November 21, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (163) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,727) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from November 1 to 21, 2023, (31) women and (54) men; (85) people in total have been killed by the junta across the country. Among (85) deceased, (38) victims were killed by the junta’s artillery strikes making the highest number of deaths followed by (22) victims killed by the junta’s airstrikes recording the second-highest number of fatalities.

On November 14, at approximately 7 p.m., junta troops from IB-56 and forces from Shwegu Town police station in Kachin State, fired artillery shells indiscriminately. The resultant artillery explosion on a house in No.2 Khon Kam Ward, Shwegu Town, killed Ei Htet. He was killed inside the house with his head blown out.

On November 19, at approximately 11:30 p.m., junta forces dropped 500-pound bombs within Ta’ang National Liberation Army Brigade 2 in Myo Thit Village, Namhsan Township, Shan State. The resulting shrapnel from the explosion on one of the houses in the village killed Tar Hsann Naw instantaneously.
