Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,141) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (450) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (25,248) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,661) are currently in detention, (7,664) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (112) post-coup death row prisoners as of October 5, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (155) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,587) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to data collected by AAPP, from January to October 5, 2023, (1) women and (14) men; (15) people in total, have been given prison sentences under specious charges by courts subservient to the junta in Chin State. Among the (15), (2) had been sentenced to life imprisonment.
On September 29, the military tribunal sentenced Biak Mway Sung to life imprisonment under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law for allegedly financially supporting the Chinland Defence Force (CDF). The military tribunal also sentenced Van Biak Ceu to 7 years imprisonment with hard labor under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law for allegedly having contact with members of the Chinland Defence Force (CDF). Both are from Hakha Town in Chin State and were arrested by junta forces in September, 2023.
