Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,126) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (450) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (24,856) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,284) are currently in detention, (7,389) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (108) post-coup death row prisoners as of September 28, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (151) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,572) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to data collected by AAPP, from September 1 to 28, 2023, (23) women and (59) men; (82) people in total have been arrested by the junta across the country. Yangon Region records the highest number of arrests with (26) people.
On September 25, 2023, junta forces arrested five people: a former political prisoner named Khin Su Su Hlaing (aka Mar Su) who was released from Tharyarwady Prison on May 3, 2023, Maw Chay Min, Ei Shwe Sin, Nilar Sein and Daywa, at Khin Su Su Hlaing’s house located in Dagon Myothit (South) Township, Yangon Region. Khin Su Su Hlaing had been sentenced to serve 3 years in prison under Section 505 A of the Penal Code in 2021 and she was transferred from Insein Prison to Tharyarwady Prison.
