Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,120) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (450) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (24,844) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,272) are currently in detention, (7,374) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (107) post-coup death row prisoners as of September 26, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (150) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,572) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to data collected by AAPP, from September 1 to 26, 2023, (5) women and (23) men; (28) people in total, have been killed by the junta’s artillery strikes across the country. Among the (28) deceased, Kayin State records the highest number of deaths with (8) people.
On September 23, at approximately 5:30 a.m., Artillery Hill, under the command of No.12 Operations Control Command of the junta, launched 120 mm artillery shells at Naung Ta Lar Village, located in Kyondoe Town, Kawkareik Township, Kayin State. One of the artillery shells exploded on a house in the village, resulting in the death of Saw Kay Tunt. He was killed due to shrapnel that struck the left side of his neck.
