Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,078) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (400) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.

Since the coup, a total of (24,777) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,465) are currently in detention, (7,323) of whom are serving sentences. 

There are a total of (107) post-coup death row prisoners as of September 15, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (150) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,312) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to September 15, 2023, (712) people between February and December in 2021, (343) people in 2022 and (249) people from January to September 15, 2023; (1,304) people in total, have been killed by the junta’s gunshots across the country, with Sagaing Region recording the highest number of deaths with (471) people.

On September 10, around 170 junta personnel raided Kan Gyi Yoe Village, located in Myaing Township, Magway Region, and took Thein Lwin, a local from Wet Kyone Village. On September 11, at approximately 7 a.m., upon arrival to the east of Nyaung Nyo Taw Village, located in Myaing Township, junta forces shot him dead.
