Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,075) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution.

Since the coup, a total of (24,765) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,454) are currently in detention, (7,306) of whom are serving sentences. 

There are a total of (103) post-coup death row prisoners as of September 13, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (146) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,311) people have already been released.

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to September 13, 2023, (155) people have been killed by the junta in Tanintharyi Region. Among the (155) deceased, (102) people were killed by the junta’s shot making the highest number of deaths within the region. (53) people were killed between February and December in 2021, (47) people were killed in 2022 and (55) people were killed from January to September 13, 2023.

On September 11, at approximately 12 p.m., around 30 junta personnel clashed with No. 1 Myeik District People’s Defence Force in Pi Tat Village, located in Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region. In the aftermath, junta forces shot and killed a local identified as Yote Hsoe, while also searching and destroying the houses of the locals.
