Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,850) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (24,100) people were arrested and among them, (19,710) are currently under detention, (6,976) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of July 28, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (158) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,390) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to July 28, 2023, (128) Hluttaw Representatives have been arrested by the junta. Among the (128), (88) have been still detained, including (54) representatives who have been given prison sentences under specious charges by courts subservient to the junta. Among the (54), (24) of them have been sentenced to serve more than one prison sentence.
On April 7, 2023, Myaungmya Prison District Court sentenced Wai Linn Aung to serve 2 years in prison under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.
On July 12, 2023, he was sentenced to a further 10 years in prison under Section 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, a total of 12 additional years in prison. He was previously sentenced to 26 years of imprisonment on November 28, 2022, making it 38 years of imprisonment in total. The junta forcibly arrested him on December 14, 2021, in Lay Kay Kaw Myothit, Myawaddy Township in Kayin State. He was a Pyithu Hluttaw Representative of Myaungmya Township, Ayeyarwady Region from NLD Party, who won election in 2020.
