Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,848) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (24,065) people were arrested and among them, (19,677) are currently under detention, (6,944) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of July 27, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (158) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,388) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by AAPP, from January to July 27, 2023, (157) people died from artillery strikes employed by junta forces across the country, with Sagaing Region reporting the highest deaths, at (51) victims.
On July 22, at around 7:30 pm, the junta’s police station and military camps in Khampat Town, Tamu District, Sagaing Region were attacked. Following the attack, junta forces responded by firing artillery shells. An artillery shell exploded in No.1 Ward of Khampat Town, killing Pau Sian San who was hit by artillery shrapnel.
