According to monitoring by the AAPP Documentation and Research Department, in recent weeks, junta forces have increasingly been using airstrikes to attack civilian areas, which are not military targets, across the country. As a result, extensive damage has been caused and locals have been forced to evacuate.

On the morning of July 18, clashes broke out between junta forces and a coalition of Chinland Defence Forces near Masartwi Village in Kanpetlet Township, Chin State. Thereafter, junta forces bombed the village from the air – a Church and several houses were destroyed, and around 1,000 locals were forced to flee for safety.

In addition, junta forces fired guns and artillery shells at civilian areas. They then raided and set fire to the civilian areas with many houses being burned down and locals forced to flee. On the evening of July 17, over 300 junta personnel fired guns and artillery shells at Mu Mandalay Village in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region. They then raided the village and set fire to it. As a result, more than 80 houses were burned down, and thousands of locals from over 20 different villages were forced to flee during the night. The villages included Mu Mandalay, Ma Gyi Koe Pin, Hmway Hla, Htein Kan, Shwe Kyaung Kan, Inn Ma, Ma Gyi Taw, Nyaung Myit, Ma Gyi Kan and Na Be Kyu Villages.

According to data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to July 24, 2023, (136) people in Kachin State have been killed by the junta. Moreover, (758) people have been arrested in Kachin State and (550) are still in detainment. Among those currently detained, (78) were given prison sentences under specious charges.
