Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,819) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (23,980) people were arrested and among them, (19,593) are currently under detention, (6,924) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of July 21, 2023. (122) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (158) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,387) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to July 21, 2023, (64) people in Kayin State have been killed by the junta. Moreover, (426) people have been arrested in Kayin State and (394) are still in detainment. Among those currently detained, (138) were given prison sentences under specious charges.

On the evening of July 8, Min Zaw Oo, from Pyar Sa Khan Village in Thandaunggyi Township, Kayin State, was returning home from his work as a vendor. He was encountered by junta troops, shot, and  killed immediately.
