Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,805) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (23,919) people were arrested and among them, (19,535) are currently under detention, (6,859) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of July 18, 2023. (122) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (158) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,384) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to July 18, 2023, (1,690) people in Sagaing Region were killed by the junta. Of the (1,690) victims, (720) of them were killed in detainment. Moreover, (3,142) people were arrested in Sagaing Region, and (2,865) are still in detainment. Among the still detained persons, (773) were given prison sentences under specious charges.

On July 13, at around 6 a.m., over 70 junta personnel raided and set Thone Sint Kan Village in Wetlet Township, Sagaing Region on fire. As a result, a retired teacher identified as Khin Maung Htay was burned to death as he was unable to flee.
