Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,793) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (23,870) people were arrested and among them, (19,495) are currently under detention, (6,843) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of July 14, 2023. (122) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (158) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,375) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to July 14, 2023, (384) people in Mandalay Region were killed by the junta. Of the (384) victims, (148) of them were killed by gunshot, while (134) of them were killed in detainment. Moreover, (4,511) people were arrested in Mandalay Region, and (4,210) are still in detainment. Among the still detained persons, (2,654) were given prison sentences under specious charges.
On July 7, 2021, junta forces arrested Sein Win from Ma Kyee Su Village in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region. He was sentenced to serve 3 years in prison under Section 505 A of the Penal Code. On July 2, 2023, the police station informed his family that he died from gastrointestinal bleeding while being detained in Myingyan Prison. They told the family that the body would be returned to them. However, when the family members went to retrieve his body from the hospital’s mortuary, they were denied. On July 3, the junta forces cremated his body.
