Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,750) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (23,753) people were arrested and among them, (19,383) are currently under detention, (6,662) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of July 6, 2023. (122) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (158) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,370) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to data collected by AAPP, from February 2021 to July 6, 2023, (244) people in Bago Region were killed by the junta. Of the (244) victims, (124) of them were killed by gunshot, while (94) of them were killed during the protest crackdown. Moreover, (1,958) people were arrested in Bago Region, and (1,468) are still under detention. Among the still detained persons, (491) were given prison sentences under specious charges.

On July 1, Zee Phyu Kone Police Station and a nearby gambling ring, where Police and Pyu Saw Htee militiamen were present, was attacked in Letpadan Township, Bago Region. On the night of July 3, junta forces arrested Khin Nyo Myint, Myat Min Soe, Ei Ei Aung, Moe Gyi, Soe Naing Tun, Myint Kyaing, Sithu and Wutyi Soe from Aung Mingalar Village in Pauk Taw Su Village Tract, Letpadan Township, for allegedly being PDFs. They are currently being detained at Zee Phyu Kone Police Station.
