Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,720) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (23,635) people were arrested and among them, (19,279) are currently under detention, (6,599) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of June 28, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (157) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,356) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by the AAPP, from June 1 to June 28 2023, (12) people have died across the country due to the junta’s airstrikes. The Sagaing Region has the highest number of fatalities with (10) people.

On June 27, at around 3 pm, the junta dropped bombs from Tada-U Air Force’s aircraft on Nyaung Kone Village in Pale Township, Sagaing Region, without any clash taking place. As a result, 8 locals and a monk were killed. Additionally, one of the locals injured in the attack later died, bringing the total number of fatalities to 10. Due to the bombing, a monastery and 13 houses were also destroyed.
