Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,659) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (23,337) people were arrested and among them, (19,001) are currently under detention, (6,366) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of June 14, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (157) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,337) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, beginning in January 2023 and lasting till the second week of June in 2023, junta’s courts across the country sentenced (108) women, (620) men and (2) transgender people; (730) in total, to serve prison terms under baseless charges. Among the (730) imprisoned, several people have been serving long-term additional sentences under specious charges. Out of the (730), (7) women and (47) men; (54) in total were sentenced to life imprisonment, while (4) women and (11) men; (15) in total were sentenced to the death penalty.
On June 9, Pyinoolwin District Court sentenced philanthropist Po Pyae Thu, to serve an additional 15 years in prison under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. Po Pyae Thu owned Maymyo Eain Restaurant in Pyinoolwin Township, Mandalay Region. She has to serve over 43 years in prison due to the additional charges imposed on her. She was arrested by the junta forces in October 2021 for allegedly supporting the PDFs. Additionally, they also seized her restaurant.
