Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,649) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (23,299) people were arrested and among them, (18,968) are currently under detention, (6,330) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of June 9, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (157) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,331) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

According to information gathered today, on June 8, at around 9 am, junta forces fired artillery shells at Nit Ka Yin Village in Ye Township, Mon State. An artillery shell exploded on a house in the village; injuring a migrant worker named Tin Gyi. She died from her injuries while being transported to the hospital.

In addition to this, on June 7, at approximately 5 am, around 80 junta forces attacked Yay Kan Su Village in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region. They opened fire on a PDF base located in the village. During the attack, they arrested 4 PDF personnel. The junta then shot and killed the 4 PDF, and set their bodies on fire. In addition, as the junta forces were raiding the village, they shot and killed 2 local men who tried to flee out of fear.
