Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,630) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (23,283) people were arrested and among them, (18,953) are currently under detention, (6,303) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (115) post-coup death row prisoners as of June 7, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (157) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,330) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

According to information gathered today, on the morning of June 6, a military column of junta forces stationed in Wunpawng Company in Salingyi Township, Sagaing Region, captured 15 locals from Moe Kyoe Pyin Village and around 30 locals from Yar Za Kyaw Village, to use as human shields.

In addition to this, on June 2, from 7 am to 8 am, junta No.1 Operation Command with IB-32 and IB-283 fired 120 mm artillery shells at Kyainseikgyi Town in Kayin State. The junta forces were backed-up by a Mi-35 military helicopter from the junta’s Mawlamyine Air Force of Southeast Command Headquarters. Four people were killed due to exploding artillery shrapnel, including a monk from No.3 Ward, and Kayin, Pann Aye and 13-year-old Arli from No.6 Ward in Kyainseikgyi Town.
