Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,596) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (22,842) people were arrested and among them, (18,522) are currently under detention, (6,112) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (114) post-coup death row prisoners as of May 31, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (156) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,320) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to information gathered today, on May 30, Mogaung Township Court sentenced Nay Chi Aung to serve 3 years in prison under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. She was a clerk from the General Administration Department, who had joined the Civil Disobedience Movement. The junta forces arrested her at her house in Nam Yin Ward, Mogaung Town, Kachin State, on April 7.
In addition to this, on the night of May 27, junta forces arrested Khaing Soe Wai at her house in Shwegu Town, Kachin State. She was a teacher who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement. Currently, Khaing Soe Wai is being detained at Shwegu Myoma Police Station.
