Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,593) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (22,737) people were arrested and among them, (18,417) are currently under detention, (6,106) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (114) post-coup death row prisoners as of May 30, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (156) people who have been sentenced to death. (4,320) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly. 

According to information gathered today, on May 27, junta forces arrested Theint Theint Soe at her house located in No.6 Ward, Bogale Town, Ayeyarwady Region. She was a teacher who had joined the Civil Disobedience Movement in Bogale Town, and was arrested for allegedly having connection with the National Unity Government. She is currently detained at Bogale Myoma Police Station, and is charged under Section 52(a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. 

In addition to this, on May 25, around 70 junta personnel raided Ma Kyee Sauk Village in Ayadaw Township, Sagaing Region. A local woman identified as Cho attempted to flee, when she was shot by the junta forces. Cho died from shots to the head and chest.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
