These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on May 8, at approximately 5 p.m., a coalition of around 7 junta personnel and U Shwe Min militiamen arrived in a private car at a tollbooth (a gate where tax is collected from vehicles passing through them), permitted by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), at the entrance of Sadung Town, Waingmaw Township, Kachin State, and opened fire. As a result, 2 locals: Maran Ja Li Htum Ja and Arr Ti, and a vendor near the tollbooth, were shot and died immediately from their injuries.

In addition to this, on May 5, at around 8 a.m., a clash broke out between junta forces and a local People’s Defence Force near Let Htote Taw Village, Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region. Then on May 6, junta forces raided and set fire to the village. A local named Aung Soe was trapped in the village, he was beaten and tortured, and later died from the fire as he could not flee.

AAPP will continue to inform on verified daily arrests, charges, sentences, and fatalities in relation to the attempted coup, and update the lists with details of these alleged offenses.
