According to the data collected by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, in recent weeks, junta forces have been attacking villages and the number of civilians being arrested has been increasing. As a result, the civilians had to flee for safety. On April 27, a military column composed of personnel from LIB-361 and Division-88 of junta forces attacked near Pa Zi Gyi Village, Ma Le Rural Area, Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, and arrested at least 10 local civilians from Sa Kyin Village, which was on their path. The military columns had been attacking inside Ma Le Rural Area since April 18, and because of that nearly 10,000 locals from 13 villages around Pa Zi Gyi Village had to flee for safety. Additionally, junta forces had been carrying out attacks targeting civilians using airstrikes. On April 29, junta forces carried out an aerial bombing and fired heavy weaponry at the western side of Demoso Township, Kayah State, without any clash taking place; burning and destroying houses and injuring people.

According to information gathered today, on April 28, Banyar Soe Htet, who was a member of Yangon Revolution Force and graduated in Physics from East Yangon University, was sentenced by Insein Prison Special Court to serve an additional 10 years under Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. He was already sentenced to serve 74 years in prison under two charges under the Penal Code, and hence he is going to serve 84 years in prison in total. He was arrested in November 2021, for allegedly being involved in the assassination of Thein Aung, general manager of the Head Office of the junta-owned Mytel Telecommunication Company, and in the shooting and killing of a husband and a wife, both of whom ran a grocery store on Oak Kyin Station Street, No.16 Ward, Hlaing Township.

In addition, on March 22, Kaung Set Paing, who is a member of North Okkalapa Township Students’ Union (All Burma Federation of Student Unions) responsible for activity coordination, was sentenced by Insein Prison Military Tribunal to life imprisonment under Section 505 A of the Penal Code and Section 50(j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. On April 25, the military tribunal additionally sentenced him to the death penalty under Sections 49(a) and 50(i) of the Counter-Terrorism Law. The junta arrested him on December 1, 2022.
