Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,430) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
Since the coup, a total of (21,514) people were arrested and among them (17,609) are currently under detention, (5,652) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (110) post-coup death row prisoners as of April 24, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (152) people who have been sentenced to death. (3,882) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the Documentation and Research Department of AAPP, in recent weeks, junta forces have been conducting airstrikes targeting civilians, as well as attacking and setting fire to villages using military columns. On April 18, junta forces attacked Man Kyi Kan Village and its rural hospital in Myaing Township, Magway Region, with an MI-35 helicopter. The junta forces also set the village and the hospital on fire. In addition, junta forces have been arbitrarily capturing and abducting people as human shields. Recently, a military column of junta forces captured and abducted civilians as human shields from four villages in Hpakant Township, Kachin State: Kat Hmaw Zup Village, Hsaing Hpa Ra Village, Hmaw Pon Village, and Hsan Hka Village.
According to information gathered today, on the morning of April 23, around 30 junta personnel raided Ya Nge Village in Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region. The junta personnel questioned locals at the village monastery after capturing them.
In addition, on April 21, a military column of junta forces captured and abducted many civilians as human shields from Hmaw Pon Village and Hsan Hka Village in Long Hkin Village Tract, Hpakant Township, Kachin State. Some of the civilians were being detained at Kam Si Strategic Hill, while others were being detained in Ma Zup Yan Detainment Cell.
