Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021, military coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,240) people, including pro-democracy activists and other civilians, have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.

Since the coup, a total of (21,348) people were arrested and among them (17,460) are currently under detention, (5,586) of whom are serving sentences. There are a total of (109) post-coup death row prisoners as of April 12, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (151) people who have been sentenced to death. (3,866) people have already been released. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to information gathered today, on the night of April 9, junta forces arrested Min Aung, a tea shop owner living in Mhaw Wun Ward in Hpakant Township, Kachin State. He was also the chairman of Myit Tar Shin Charity Association.

In addition, on April 4, Win Min Htwe (aka Arr Ti Ti) was inspected at a junta forces and Pyu Saw Htee joint checkpoint between Chat Thin Village and Koe Taung Boet Village, in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region. The personnel found a picture of him wearing a People’s Defence Force uniform in his phone and arrested him. On the morning of April 5, the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion No. 521 informed Win Min Htwe’s family of his death. However, his body was not returned to his family. Win Min Htwe was a local of Nang Khwin Village in Mogaung Township, Kachin State.
